Hi! My name is Lauren White. I am a Yoga Alliance certified teacher (500-RYT) and yoga therapist (C-IAYT 800 hr). I received my B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Virginia in 2012, and my Ph.D. in Ecology, Evolution & Behavior in 2018 from the University of Minnesota. I finished my M.S. in Yoga Therapy at the Maryland University of Integrative Health– the only accredited master’s program of its kind in the United States– in 2020.
My journey with yoga started when I was an undergraduate. To offset the stresses of my engineering degree, I ran long distances. After an injury sidelined me, I took my first yoga class, and realized that I had found another activity that could give me something equivalent to a “runner’s high.” For a while, yoga was just another good workout alternative, but that all changed when I was diagnosed with Lyme disease during my first year of my Ph.D. program.
For months, I felt like I would never fully recover in mind, body, or spirit. For me, yoga pulled me back from the brink; it taught me to be at peace with my body– and to recognize that my practice may be different every single day. If you’re dealing with a chronic or life-changing diagnosis, I’ve been there.
I’ve now been practicing yoga for seven years, teaching vinyasa style yoga for the past four years, and I am passionate about sharing this practice with others. With 300+ hours of teaching experience and my research background, I am excited to work with you to develop evidence-based practices that serve your needs.
